The Division of Curriculum and Instructional Services (CIS) Posted on July 25, 2019 01:26 Professional development and technical assistance from the Division of Curriculum and Instructional Services (CIS) at the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) supports educators in planning and providing high quality instructional programs that prepare students to demonstrate proficiency on the California State Standards, and acquire skills and knowledge necessary for success in the 21st century. Units within CIS provide the following services: College and Career Readiness (AVID) provides what first generation college students need: high expectations, encouragement, day-to-day support, and a vision of college acceptance and graduation. AVID involves students in a strong group of peers and adults who share a commitment to academic achievement and who work together to help the group succeed. University credits are available for many courses at an additional cost. Extensive teaching and learning resources are available at no cost for educators and students. EACSU provides professional development and technical assistance to support LEAs in the implementation of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) system. EACSU conducts research and evaluation studies, coordinates the California Distinguished Schools Program, and is a resource for information on Gifted and Talented Education (GATE).
